8/ When people value liquidity over access, private markets trade at discounts to public markets.7/ When people value access over liquidity, private markets create premiums to public markets.6/ The tension between public and private markets is a tension between liquidity and scarcity.5/ People many times conflate a private “scarce” market value with a public “broad” market value.4/ Private markets adds scarcity as a variable, skewing valuation to highest (or high) pricing.3/ Private market pricing is what ONE investor would pay to buy shares, generally sold by the Company.2/ Public market pricing is what a BROAD group would pay to exchange shares. Anyone can buy or sell from each other with no restrictions.1/ A valuation means very different things in public and private markets and it is one way to judge current investor sentiment.@sama The hardest single thing a founder does is to decide whose opinion to trust on what topic. The front end is much harder as it involves consumer behavior / sentiment / branding.2/ They own both the front and back end in China, but it's the front end that gives them max leverage on the rest of the system.1/ Alibaba investing in Snapchat is a slow steady approach of building out their Western infrastructure
